THE LEGEND OF WOLFCRAIG

"HERE IN AULD DAYS, THE WOLF ROAM'D IN A HOLE OF THE ROCK, IN AMBUSH LAY"

Norse invaders crept through the cover of a dark wintery night, intent on ambushing a Celtic garrison.

The eerie silence was broken by one stumbling Norseman that trod on the paw of a sleeping wolf-cub, who awoke startled, and began to howl.

The raucous howling of the wolfpack filled the night's sky and alerted the garrison to the threat.

A bloody battle ensued, which saw the Celts succeed in slaughtering the Nordic invaders.

Since then, the wolf has long been considered the "Protector of Stirling", and the battlefield known as "Wolfcraig".
